Charm Killings: Six Things You Should Know

Charm Killings
Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early
If you’re sick of the same old eye candy, allow us to introduce you to Charm Killings, featured model in Far East Movement ft. Snoop Dogg’s “OMG” video, who is brand spanking new to the modeling game. Despite clocking less than 365 days in front of the cameras the 22-year-old California girl has already built a strong resume sturdy sense of humor. Asked her sexiest attribute, Charm jokes, “Ummmmmm, so many, I don’t know – my personality?” Far from shy, the fun-loving fresh face is quickly building a following, thanks largely to her ample (34D- 24-39) curves and easygoing attitude.  That’s not all either, check out our chat with Charm for Six Things You Should Know.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
My real name is Jessica, Charm is more fun. Everyone’s name is Jessica. Killings is my real last name though. My favorite song right now, I would have to say “Make It Rain.” Don’t laugh at me. I like it. I think it’s funny.  I also love Jeezy. That’s my favorite rapper, probably.  I liked working with Jay Sean, he was really really nice, but I’ve never worked with anyone who was hard to be around. I’ve never had a problem with any other models either. I’m pretty cool with everyone I’ve worked with.  The best part of my job is not having to do my own hair and makeup. That’s fun. I like getting glammed up.
She’s Deeply Rooted
I’m from the Inland Empire, it’s like an hour from Los Angeles, but I live in North Hollywood now. Growing up I was athletic, but I was like – a girly girl.  I am Portuguese, German and black. My mom is black and my dad is Portuguese and white. I never meet people who are the same mix as me. I’ve only met one person who was Portuguese and black. What do my parents think about my modeling? They’re supportive of everything I do as long as I’m happy.
New Kid On The Block
I just started modeling last summer. I’ve only been modeling around eight months so I’m really new… Fresh meat!   I did the Far East movement video ft. Snoop Dogg “OMG” video that hasn’t come out yet, I just did the Slim Thug and Baby Bash video “Swananana.” I also just did the Big Sean and Chris Brown video “My Last,” I was in Bow Wow “Pretty Lady” and Jay Sean ft. Nicki Minaj “2012.” I’m in a lot of videos. I can’t even tell you all of them. I don’t have any crazy stories yet. I’m just starting so, so far I haven’t gotten any stalkers. I’ve been in Show Magazine and I’m going to be on the cover of the next Black Men’s Magazine with Keyshia Dior and KimBella.
Up For Grabs
I’m very single right now. I’m not looking. I don’t like to look, but if it happens I’m not opposed.  In the bedroom I like a guy who takes charge. I’m more laidback. I like a guy who is funny and that’s probably the most important quality to me—a good personality, someone who is funny. I don’t have like a certain type. I like somebody with swag who has a good personality.  My turnoffs? I hate people who talk down to other folks, or think they’re better or show off a lot. I don’t like show offs! My big crush… I don’t have a lot of crushes but I like Travie McCoy. I love him, he’s so cute. I like all kinds of guys but I like him, he’s like my crush.
Inspirations and Aspirations.
What inspires me? Just seeing other people do good makes me want to push myself farther. I wouldn’t try to say I’m trying to go in any direction that anyone is going that’s modeling though. Being a model is not that hard. It’s pretty easy.
I’m hoping to move onto the next thing before I become oversaturated. I want to do hosting and I’m about to get started on some acting classes, but I don’t want to pursue acting until I’ve started with the classes. I don’t want to look like an idiot.
Bare Naked Lady
As far as my favorite costume, I did an army shoot recently and that was fun. Being naked… depends on the setting. It can be a little uncomfortable but you just have to get used to it. I’m pretty comfortable. I’m not self-conscious like that. Sometimes I want around naked at home. I wear anything to bed. I wear sweats, I could be naked. I don’t have a certain thing I wear every night. —Janee Bolden

Halie: The Baddest VH1 Reality Chick

Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early
Hot and humble. That might be the best way to describe Heather “Halie” Scoggins, from VH1’s Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch. Upon learning that she took the top spot on XXL’s 50 Baddest Reality Chicks list last week, Halie accepted the adulation modestly.
“I’m very happy,” said the half-black, half-white curvaceous 24-year-old model and video vixen, who splits time between Atlanta and Miami. “I found out just from Twitter. I guess it got re-tweeted.”
The 36D-25-41 (yes, 41)- measuring stunner adds that the fact that VH1’s reality shows have casted beautiful women throughout the years and she was still named No. 1 only sweetens the deal.
“Yeah, it makes it even better,” Scoggins said. “There was some pretty girls, especially on For The Love of Ray J. All of the shows had some pretty girls. Caviar (from For the Love of Ray J) was pretty. Hoops (from Flavor of Love) was definitely very pretty. Rubi from our show was a pretty girl. All the shows had attractive girls, so I guess it’s personal taste. It’s definitely interesting to see how the staff rated. I was No. 7 on (The Ultimate Catch). I wasn’t my normal self on the show. I’m happy people can look deeper and past the show.”
After winning the crown on XXL’s list, she has her sights set on another goal: acting. Having already done modeling for T.I.’s Akoo clothing line and appearing in music videos for the likes of Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj (“Bottoms Up“), DJ Khaled (“All I Do is Win“) and Jamie Foxx (“Blame It“), Scoggins says she loves modeling, but would like to transition into the acting world, even if it’s behind the scenes (although we’re sure the fellas hope she’s in front of the cameras).
“I definitely want to work on the next step, broaden my horizons,” Scoggins said. “I would love to do something behind the scenes on a VH1 show or any show or act. That’s my ultimate goal.”
The kind of work Caviar – who’s now starring in adult films – is doing, we ask? “No,” Scoggins says, “not that kind.” —Mark Lelinwalla
Eye Candy Vital Stats
Relationship Status: Single.
Favorite Car: Lambos are always sexy! To drive, Range Rover.
Celebrity Crush: Lance Gross.
Dream Date: A horse & carriage ride to a romantic dinner on the water.
Something odd about me is… “I grew up in the country.”
When I’m stressed, I like to… “Workout or read, definitely spend time alone.”
I’m eye candy because… “of my natural curves, unique face and outgoing personality.”

Lisa Raye: Money, Power & Sex

Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early
We’ve had our eye on Lisa Raye’s many talents since Players Club, so we jumped at the chance to talk to the beautiful actress and former First Lady of Turks & Caicos about the new season of TV One’s The Real McCoy, working on the Queen Latifah-produced film and original series Single Ladies and her new role managing her daughter Kai’s modeling career. The Chicago stunner also spilled a few things about sister Da Brat’s recent release from prison, how Lil’ Kim and Tupac figured in her evolution as a hip-hop sex symbol and whether or not she’d let a rapper romance her. Is she still using what she has to get what she wants? Blessed with a body like that, we wouldn’t blame her if she is.—Janeé Bolden

XXLMag.com: In trailer for your new season we saw you talk about meeting TD Jakes and trying to live a more spiritual life – not drink or have sex and you were struggling with that. How is that going?

Lisa Raye: Yep. I’m still struggling with it. I’ve definitely worked on my relationship with God and TD Jakes definitely sat me down and said to me, ‘Let me have a conversation with you young lady, because you have no right to think of yourself in unhappy terms. Get out of your own way. Shake it up and shake it off.’ Sometimes you need somebody to put their foot down and that’s what he did for me. I said let me get out of my own way. Let me give it to God and see what he can do with it. That’s what I’ve been doing ever since… and I’ve struggled with it. But I want to live right, I want know what my purpose is, I want to know what my passion is, I want to know the things I’ve done wrong so I can do it right. If we have that opportunity, and we do everyday, to change it, why in the heck wouldn’t we? That’s a whole different story that I have to add to the story on top of the story that I’m telling about women coming together and moving through no matter what the hell you go through.

XXL: On the first season of The Real McCoy everyone was able to see how close you are with your daughter, there was even some controversy about you kissing up on her…

Lisa Raye: That hasn’t changed. I’m still kissing on her and I will forever kiss on her because if you don’t show kids love, they don’t know how to receive love. That’s the love of my life along with my mom and my puppy Diamond, so that right there will never change. Actually I’ve found new ways to get kisses from her, which is in second season as well. I think every parent who has a relationship with their child understood that. For every person that didn’t understand, there was double that did.

XXL: Were you able to visit Da Brat while she was behind bars? Do you still have a close relationship?
Lisa Raye: I took the cameras up to visit my sister during the first season [of The Real McCoy.] They wouldn’t allow me to bring the cameras inside, but yes I had to come visit her because when you’re locked up you have to be in touch with the outside world. That’s my sister and there is love there and I had to lay eyes on her and let her know that I was supportive and that we make mistakes but I couldn’t wait for her to come out and I’d be here with open arms, which is exactly what I was. It’s just a blessing that I’m filming here in Atlanta so when she got out, I’m here. She’s on house arrest and I see her and we talk and we Twitter and we love. I’m just glad that she just has a different perspective on life as well. She’ll be back out here brand new and I can’t wait until she comes out with some new stuff so I can support that as well.
XXL: You’re in Atlanta filming Single Ladies. That starts as a movie right, then continues a TV show?
Lisa Raye: The writer for the project is Stacy A. Littlejohn and she was a writer on my sitcom All of Us. She wrote the script for a movie Single Ladies and sold it to Queen Latifah and they took it over to VH1. She had me in mind for this character named Keisha. She’s a video vixen and she is opinionated, she’s sassy, she is the devil’s advocate to the series. She’s funny, but she’s a mirror image of the powerful man that’s out there that’s looking for a mate. She doesn’t play any games, she has money. We’re dealing with issues that we as women deal with every day, but each character deals with it in a different way so you’ll have a girlfriend that will be able to identify with each character. That’s what’s so fun about it, it’s like a modern urban Sex And The City. There is nothing on TV like this. So I am very excited about it. It’s shot in Atlanta. It’s rich, it’s positive it’s hot. It’s sexy. I have Stacey Dash as a co-star on there as well, Charity Shea is on there and Lauren London. It turns into a series after the movie airs May 30th.

Tahiry: Enough Drama for Reality TV

Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early
Although she suffered a tough loss to Melyssa Ford in the second round of XXL’s The Baddest Chick in the Game Tournament, Tahiry José still maintains her spot as one of the most desirable vixens in hip-hop, not to mention one of the sassiest.
As if the numbers, 34-26-43 weren’t enough to make a grown man cry, the Dominican bombshell continues to prove why she is a big deal, a very big deal. Currently on the cusp of releasing an athletic wear line, among a number of other projects, the Harlemite is determined to become more than just a video vixen. XXLMag.com recently caught up with Ms. José to discuss a range of topics including her business ventures, her future as video model, and of course her take on the VH1’s reality show, Love & Hip-Hop. — Ralph Bristout
XXLMag.com: What have you been up to lately?
Tahiry José: I’ve been finishing with calendars then going and having my pre-release parties and I’m dealing now going back and forth with my athletic line for women. It’s called Fit By Tahiry Females In Training because I’m always in training. I’m not the pro, but I know it works in what I do and when I need to get ready. A lot of my fans ask me on Twitter what is it that I do to stay thick and not lose the booty and keep it all together. So, in doing that you know I teamed up with Angerwear and I’m coming out with like my Yoga pads, sports bras, tank tops, and something really comfortable and affordable for women to work out in.
XXL: When is that going to hit stores?
Tahiry: Well, right now we’re in the process of approving the last bits and pieces of everything that I want in it, so in about two months it’ll be probably ready.
XXL: Are you gonna appear in any hip-hop videos soon?
Tahiry: I just actually did a video, [DJ] Enuff has an artist. It’s French. Jobere is his name. He’s a rapper. Jim Jones is featured and so is Pusha T. I just did that you know. Me and Enuff go back 10 years, so why not do that video. So far, I don’t know about hip-hop videos. I don’t really consider myself a hip-hop video vixen or a video girl to begin with. I’m more like a personality.
XXL: You did a couple though?
Tahiry: I did, absolutely. Of course, first video [was] 50 Cent; second video, Fat Joe and [Young] Jeezy. Of course I’ma do certain videos, but do I consider myself a video vixen? No.
XXL: What rap video wouldn’t you do?
Tahiry: : Anything that I have to drop it like it’s hot, put it in a glass with oil. Like, I’m not the drop-it-like-it’s-hot girl, I’m not the girl that you’ll ever catch in the tub just feeling herself. We good. I’m the girl with the mouth, but I just look good in a thong.
XXL: Have you seen Love & Hip-Hop on VH1?
Tahiry: Abso-fucking-lutely I’m a fan. I’m a fucking fan! Well first off, I’m a fiend, I literally just watch Reality TV shows. Second of all, it’s the first show that I think we have after Basketball Wives. I think that Love & Hip-Hop is the one show that people that love hip-hop and just like the whole urban thing [have]. We didn’t have anything, everything [is] Jersey Shore. You know, we don’t see them shows in the projects so we have Love & Hip-Hop. I believe every one of these girls [is] somebody [women] could relate to and their struggles. There’s always a chick at home and nigga doing what he doing, living the life and [she's] unhappy; and there’s always a chick who wants to be famous and drops everything to come to New York. You know, everybody has a story, so I’m a fan.
XXL: Would you appear on a show like that?
Tahiry: I thought about it while watching it. I’m having a problem with Reality TV shows period right now because it’s more about beefing. I mean of course everybody wants to see the train wrecks, we get it, you know what I’m saying. It went from being allowing somebody into your home and allowing people to see certain things, even if it’s scripted somewhat, to now everybody’s fucking acting a fool and fighting and acting crazy. I think first episode, you speak to me a certain way, I think that that’s it, hello Bad Girl’s Club. So, would I be in it? It all depends. But, just follow me around and I have enough drama so I don’t even have to pretend.

Toccara: More Than a Model

Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early
Since first being introduced to Toccara Jones on Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model, it was evident that the young and energetic Ohio native was destined to take the industry by storm. Easily one of ANTM’s most recognizable former contestants, Toccara has managed to carve her own lane in the world of fashion and entertainment with spreads in Vogue Italia, Essence, and Ebony, in addition to becoming a host for BET’s Take the Cake. At a recent stop on the Hennessy Remixed Tour in New York, XXLMag.com caught up with the curvaceous model where she spoke about her upcoming dating show, her role as a contributing Style Editor for Essence Magazine and gave tips to the Eye Candies trying to kill the game. —Kai Acevedo & Ralph Bristout
XXL: So what projects are you currently working on?
Toccara: I’m a contributing Style Editor for Essence Magazine, so each month for like the past six months I have been in the publication. The first time they’ve ever used a curvy girl consistently like that, so make sure y’all go and pick up Essence and check me out giving tips to curvy girls. I’m with Wilhelmina Models and they’ve been working me like crazy. I’ve been doing a lot of jobs out in London. I’m the spokesperson for Hennessy, Ms. Lady Hennessy 2011 and we are here in New York with my Master Mixologist Jordan and we’re just educating all our Hennessey family and friends that Hennessey is mixable, that you could take VS, that you don’t have to just drink it straight or on the rocks or with some Coke. We have four flavors that go really well with Hennessey, which is our ginger, apple, berry and citrus. And I’m also gonna be doing Donald Trump Presents the Ultimate Merger on TV One this Fall.
XXL: How did you become Ms. Lady Hennessey?
T: I’ve been working with Hennessey for three years, so this is my third year and I like what they do and they like what I do.
XXL: So it was a perfect marriage?
T: Perfect marriage.
XXL: You mentioned working in London. How was that?
T: Oh London is amazing. I have a client over there called Evans and it’s a plus-size clothing line and their clothes are really trendy and really fashionable and you know they’re really good. Yeah, but I love it over there in London.
XXL: So are you dating anyone?
T: I’m not dating anyone right now. That’s why I’m doing Donald Trump’s the Ultimate Merger on TV One. Actually, it’s gonna be me and twelve bachelors. Donald Trump is actually the Executive Producer and he’s going to find me twelve guys to date, ’cause I’m looking for love. [Laughs]

XXL: How did you link up with Donald Trump for the show?
T: Through TV One.
XXL: Have you guys started shooting the show yet?
T: No. We start shooting that in a few days actually. Yeah, and it’s gonna air this Fall, so I’m excited and I can’t wait to see what they look like. [Laughs]
XXL: Is it gonna be filmed in New York?
T: It’s gonna be a place where there’s sun and the fun. Any way you wanna take it. All of the above. [Laughs]
XXL: Do you plan on being in any music videos?
T: You know what I need to. I didn’t have any plans, but now I’m making some. I’m making some plans to do some music videos. Why not? I like the music videos. The music videos are amazing these days. They’re like mini-movies. They’re really creative.
XXL: Is there any particular music video that you’re feeling right now?
T: I haven’t gotten the chance to watch any TV. I’ve been on the road so much, but you know what I do like Keri Hilson’s video ["The Way You Love Me"] that she got. When she she tearing it up. She doing her dance. She working it. I’m like, “Go Keri, go Keri.” Ms. Keri baby! I love it. I think it’s hot.
XXL: What music are you listening to?
T: I like Wiz Khalifa. I’m digging his music.
XXL: What are five things an Eye Candy should do to get right for the summer?
T: You know what? There’s nothing new under the sun. I mean you should drink plenty of water. [Laughs] Drink plenty of water, you should exercise, you should eat right, you should—
XXL: Drink Hennessy
T: [Laughs] You should practice your poses. Shit, for real. Practice makes perfect. They should practice their poses and what else should they do? Take their makeup off every night.

‘Conscious’ Ain’t What It Used to Be

Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early

Like it or not, rappers wear labels – and not just Louis Vuitton and True Religion. From crunk to gangster to conscious, MCs have been categorized since the beginning of rap times. But they haven’t always been quick to accept the stamps they’ve been given.

Blacksmith CEO and rapper Talib Kweli might be considered the reigning King of the “Conscious Movement.” Yet he shunned the title with the quickness during a recent AllHipHop.com interview when asked to name his Top 5 Conscious MCs.

“You know what? I don’t even know if I want to answer that question, because I feel like that’s part of the issue – we keep separating us, and it makes it hard on me as an artist,” said Talib. “It’s makes it like ‘conscious’ is the alternative to MCing. We come from a generation where, if you were going to be dope and considered in the Top 5, you had to have a degree of consciousness.”

According to Talib, things changed after Biggie: “Biggie was the first MC who was considered in the Top 5 who there wasn’t a degree of consciousness in his debut. But you started to hear it creep in in the second album…there was a little of that gangster consciousness.”

Pharoahe Monch, whose longtime career has dabbled heavily in consciousness, took a more diplomatic stance about his pal Talib’s unwillingness to be labeled. In this exclusive AllHipHop.com video clip, he shares his thoughts on what the moniker really means for him, Talib, and others:

In recent news, so-called “conscious” rapper Common was called “vile” by conservative media pundits on the eve of his invitation to The White House to read poetry for President and First Lady Obama. To most of the Hip-Hop world, Common and the word ‘vile’ don’t even exist in the same universe. His thought-infused, woman-honoring, lesson-teaching lyrics have ruled rap consciousness for over a decade and bear little resemblance to gangster.

Yet, in today’s rap climate, even Common might turn his back on the “good guy rap” label. This past week, he neither confirmed nor denied his uncanny ability to make audiences think and/or embrace often rap-absent concepts like peace and love. After all, he rides for people like escaped, convicted New Jersey cop killer Assata Shakur, and he even made a pilgrimage to communist Cuba despite his home country’s longtime stances against Assata and former president Fidel Castro.

The irony and double consciousness of the Black man has never been more persistent.

“…it’s like when you think about KRS-One and Kool G Rap and Rakim and Chuck D, and then think about their influence over Ice Cube and Q-Tip and Nas, that sort of rounds out my Top 10 list,” said Talib. “For me in 2011 to list my Top 5 Conscious MCs, I feel like that kind of does a disservice to them, because they should be listed in with everybody else. Like I think Rakim should be in the same category as Lil Wayne,” he added.

Hmmm. Maybe? Maybe not.

Big Boi Launches New Label W/ Daughter

Big Boi is ready to start his next venture. The OutKast MC has started a new label, called Purple Kids, with his daughter, Jordan, reports Billboard.
“My daughter just turned 16-years-old, and you can see it on MTV’s [My Super Sweet Sixteen], where they get cars, and things that depreciate and just don’t mean nothing,” BB said. “I wanted to give my child something that she can grow and build and nurture. So I gave her her own label.”
The label is set to launch in the next few weeks and will feature a roster of young musicians including 12 year-old Gabbie Rae, who has already appeared on The Tyra Banks Show.
In terms of his own career, the spitter’s next release is likely to be another solo album. “I had a conversation with [Island Def Jam record label chief] Barry Weiss, and he was like, ‘Hey Big, great album,’ and he’s ready for the next album,” he said. “And he wants it ASAP. So, you know, everything’s good.” —Nicole LoPresti

Chris Lighty Launches Site for New Artists

Chris Lighty, the head of Violator Management, is launching a new Web site where, for $10 hopeful artists can upload their music and industry insiders will listen and give feedback.
Pleaselistentomydemo.com will be live on Monday, May 16.
“We are in the Internet age,” Lighty told New York’s Daily News. “There are so many creative people out there. We are not reaching everybody. Just listen to the radio. It’s the same 15 artists all day everyday.”
The idea came to the manager behind 50 Cent and  Diddy about three years ago after the Bronx native noticed that people went to “American Idol” and YouTube looking for unsigned talent. For $10 bucks, the website will feature the best songs and even make them available to New York radio station Hot 97 for a shot at the airwaves.
“This will hopefully help music as a whole,” said Ebro Darden, Hot 97 program director. —Nicole LoPresti

Mobb Deep Returns to the Stage [Video]

Videos courtesy of Brook Bobbins

Queens staged a Manhattan invasion last night as a packed Best Buy Theater celebrated the live reunion of Mobb Deep. The iconic duo, bolstered with an awning referencing their Queensbridge Houses upbringing (“41-15?) and wearing Hennessy jerseys, played its first show after Prodigy spent three years in prison on weapons charges.

The group, augmenting its beats with a live band including drums, bass and keyboard, covered all corners of its storied career. Their comeback single “Love Y’all More” was a symbol of Mobb’s potential resurgence, but classics from The Infamous predictably earned the biggest audience reaction. A climactic one-two of “Got It Twisted” and “Shook Ones Pt. II” brought the dense crowd to a near-religious fervor, eliciting screams and wall-to-wall dancing.

Notably, Prodigy barely addressed his imprisonment, instead opting to boost the venue’s party atmosphere when not rapping. “I did that little bullshit ass bid,” he said after embracing Havoc at the show’s climax. “We back now.”

Of course, with any comeback, there’s bound to be special guests. An energetic Lil’ Kim joined for the remix to “Quiet Storm,” while longtime associate Big Noyd reunited for “Give Up The Goods (Just Step)” early in the set and stayed until the end. Opener Raekwon rocked his verse on the classic “Eye For An Eye (Your Beef Is Mines),” but Ghostface and potential guest Nas were nowhere to be found. The absence of 50 Cent was also noticeable as Mobb Deep performed a couple tracks from its G-Unit years. Alchemist played the part of hypeman before retreating to a nook next to the DJ and watching the rest of the show as a fan.

With both Mobb Deep and the other classic opening duo Ghostface and Raekwon, the night pitted the crowd’s nostalgia for a hip-hop past with its current corporatized image. The old school seemed to win, though. The sterile Times Square venue was quickly shrouded in a permanent cloud of weed smoke, while, at one point, a man danced next to me wearing a full Gary Sheffield Yankee jersey. It might not have been current, but the night’s celebratory atmosphere brought out energetic performances across the bill.

As usual, Ghostface put it best. “I love y’all because you feel me,” he said. “You feel Rae. You feel Cap. You feel Wu. You feel Mobb Deep. That’s why y’all niggas is here. Real detect real. That’s why it’s poppin’ in this motherfucka in New York City on a Thursday night.” He then went on a rant about how in Europe you can’t get food after 6 p.m., which was equally amazing and unprintable.

As the Wu set concluded and Mobb Deep prepared its entrance, Raekwon added, “He made it home safe.” The crowd went wild. —Carter Maness

Tyler, the Creator Signing Causes Riot

Making the promotional rounds for his album Goblin, Tyler, The Creator hit Boston yesterday (May 12) for an autograph signing at Newbury Comics. Unfortunately, the store’s capacity was no match for the hundreds-strong, local fan base that showed up hoping to meet the Odd Future leader.

While fans were supposed to receive a wristband in the morning that entitled them to a spot in line to get their CDs signed, not many got the memo. According to the Boston Herald, After hundreds swarmed the area, police arrived and shut the event down. This pushed the mostly-teenage autograph-seekers into a near frenzy, which local news described as the “Newbury St. Rap Riot.”

The crowd, perhaps taking a cue from Odd Future’s music and Tyler’s tweets earlier in the week, egged-on the cops, resulting in one officer getting injured and sent to the hospital and the subsequent arrest of a 13-year-old female for disorderly conduct.

“That’s what’s expected of them,” said a fan on a local newscast. “If the cops are here, we want to see mayhem. We want trouble.”

Former Roc-A-Fella artist Just Blaze recently broke his silence on his past beef with Dipset member Cam'ron, despite creating multiple hit records together in the past including the "Oh Boy" song. According to the producer, they grew apart in the early 2000's due to internal problems at the label.

It was an incident surrounding a Dipset chain that stood out in Just's mind. "I walked into the studio one day and Cam said to me, 'You should've been Dipset,' " he said. "He had just bought like 10 Dipset chains, so I was like, 'I need my chain -- wassup?' " A week passed, and Blaze again asked Cam about securing a Diplomats piece. "He was like, 'Yo, I had the chain but you should've been Dipset,' " Blaze recalled Cam'ron saying. "I said, 'I'm Dipset just as much as I am State Property, just as I am Get Low, just as I am Roc-A-Fella.' " (MTV)

Young Money's first lady Nicki Minaj recently opened up about her vast admiration for Lil Wayne and how being under his wing drives her to use more creativity. Nicki Minaj says Wayne's own experimental moves provide comfort for her on and off the mic.

"Absolutely. I never have to worry about Wayne thinking I'm going too far left because Wayne has been one of the pioneers in Hip Hop in terms of going too far left, you know? Whether he's singing in Auto-Tune, whether he's doing Rock or playing the guitar or he's getting tats on his face, he kind of always does him. So yeah, it definitely helps." (Hip Hop DX)
Minaj also went on to describe the sacrafice she made of her privacy since becoming a Young Money star rapper.

"Yeah, of course it gets harder, but it's one of those things. It's the price that you pay. Everyone knows when they get into this game, they kind of know that they're bartering their privacy and they're bartering peace of mind in order to win. None of this comes for free. It's an exchange; you're always exchanging one thing for the other. Obviously what I've gotten so far outweighs the things that I've had to trade in." (Hip Hop DX)

"All me and this dude did was skate past, uh, I guess it was a cop there we skated past," Tyler said in an interview. "And they just came up to us all aggressive like, 'Who are you?' and got out of the car. And I'm like, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Why, why? What do you need?' Mobb Deep Raekwon – Eye For An Eye (Live)

P & Hav performed at NYC’s Best Buy Theatre, but they weren’t alone there. This is one of my favourite joints from the peak of Mobb Deep’s creative career, the cassette tape I had of this was a trusted companion in my high school days. I’m pretty sure you don’t have to be an old head like me to see that such a live performance can be pretty epic though. Hip-hop needs more stuff like this. Different acts doing joint shows, especially of a classic song like this, that’ll definitely fill seats and give people a great evening. I know I would’ve been hyped if I was there, and I’m glad there’s some good video of it.
Besides, what do emcees have to loose? Put some creative shows together and work on your live performance, nobody can download a torrent of a great night out.

Odd Future Signing Runs Amok

Just days after Tyler, The Creator was cuffed for disturbing the peace, he’s back in the news for disturbing the peace. A recent Odd Future autograph session in Boston turned rowdy and got out of control. According to Boston’s WHDH News, Tyler was on hand to autograph some copies of his new album, Goblin. The fans were instructed to obtain some wristbands beforehand if they wanted their Goblin CDs signed. Hundreds of fans showed up sans wristbands and the sight got ugly. Cops tried to sneak the group out back, but the crowd converged on them. Po-po had to step and shut down the entire operation. One of the police officers slipped and hurt his back. But that wasn’t the highlight of the story. They centerpiece in all of this? They charged a 13-year old girl with disorderly conduct. Where they do that at?

Drake Raises Eyebrows

Be next to rise in the world of Hip Hop. Click Here to get the BluePrint....Hip Hop Early

Young Money's Drake is being put into the spotlight just days after his "I'm On One" track debuted off DJ Khaled's upcoming We The Best Forever album with reports claiming shots may have been fired at Jay-Z and Kanye West.
While currently nothing more than speculation, reports claim Drizzy may have been taunting Jay and Ye's Watch the Throne joint album.
On the record "I'm On One" featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Rick Ross, Drizzy had listeners hitting the playback after his verse when he referenced a familiar album backed by two powerhouse rappers. "Hate the rumors hate the bulls--t hate these f---in allegations/im just feelin like the throne is for the taking. Watch me take it." Could the "throne" that Drake is referring to be the same throne that Jay-Z and Kanye West are currently warning competitors about on their upcoming album Watch The Throne? Did Drake send a subliminal shot at Hov and 'Ye? (RapFix)
Earlier this year, Drake playfully sent a few friendly blasts at the duo's upcoming collaborative project.
"I'll be on [Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV] -- we've done a great song...We're going to do another one... and another one. We still got to do that [collaboration] album. I heard two other guys are coming out with an album together, too. There's two other rappers [that] are coming out with an album together. I don't know where they got that idea but -- I caught wind of it through the grapevine that there's some other album with two guys rapping on it. [laughs]" ("Tim Westwood TV")
Prior to Wayne being released from jail over a gun conviction, Drake promised a joint album would be put together.
"I went up to Rikers, and me and Wayne agreed that there will be a Lil Wayne/Drake album," Drake told DJ Envy on MTV's "Sucker Free." " ... There's some things I'm excited for in my life -- I'm excited to go perform certain places -- but [this project] will probably be one of the most exciting things in my life, because we make music on a different level. It's just so fun, so comfortable. A whole album? To think about all the things we can do, especially if we're gonna do 15 songs. Me and him don't like to do 12, 13 [songs]. We want to do 15, 16. Yeah, Lil Wayne and Drake album." (MTV)
In addition to working on Jay's Blueprint III and recruiting Hov for their "Light Up" Thank Me Later collaboration, Drizzy is also a big fan of Kanye West.
"I'm very much looking forward to the Kanye West [My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy] album because I need to be scared and inspired for my second joint," Drake to radio personality Funkmaster Flex. "That ['Power'] record just had to happen. Kanye's a genius and I'm super excited for the rest of the album because I've heard some things that people haven't heard." ("Sucker Free")

Ludacris Disturbs Tha Wedding Bells, "I've Learned So Much About Myself This Past 2 Years Through Rumors"

Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris has come forward to die down reports claiming he has turned in his bachelor card and become a married man.
Luda took to Twitter to kill the gossip and rumors from spreading further.
"I've learned so much about myself this past 2 years thru rumors, can u pls make up some more cause I can't wait 2 c what happens 2 me next!," he tweeted May 10th.
"RT @AnolahBlackFox: @ludacris I see u must have heard that ur a married man now lol -- I did!Just mad I'm the last one to find out about it!" (Ludacris' Twitter)
Speculation on the rapper's marital status changing hit the net earlier in the week.
Rapper/actor Ludacris has shot down reports he wed his student girlfriend. The Fast Five star took to his Twitter.com account to let fans know the truth after singer Monica appeared to welcome him to the family in a tweet on Friday morning. Monica is cousin to Ludacris' longtime girlfriend Euxodie. (Contact Music)
Outside of romance, Luda recently said he was focused on putting out a follow-up to 2010's Battle of the Sexes album.
"There's no way I can put it into words," Luda said referring to the new LP. "When you hear the album you'll know. People can expect me to take it to a level they know I'm capable of. If anybody has doubts, I have no problem continuing to prove myself. And I have no problem slapping the ones who're sleeping to make them wake up. It's about consistency...[Consistency means] having a perfect balance between always staying true to the hip-hop lyrists' roots, and also not pigeonhole myself; being able to work with people like Fergie, or Justin Bieber, or Enrique Iglesias. Who else is able to do those and still get on the 'Welcome to My Hood (Remix)' and kill sh*t - period?! That's what I think I've been able to consistently do." (All Hip Hop)
A few weeks ago, Luda revealed his intention to drop the LP before 2012.
Ludacris is prepping his eighth studio album, 'Ludaversal,' for a late 2011 release. During a visit to 102.7 KIIS FM's Ryan Seacrest morning show on Tuesday (March 29), the Atlantarapper confirmed that fans could expect a follow up to 2010's 'Battle of the Sexes' later this year. "I'm just getting started on it, so hopefully by the end of this year," Luda explained. The anticipated album will include production from the Neptunes. Besides the beatmaking duo of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, the 'My Chick Bad' performer declined to reveal more details. (The Boom Box)

5 Tips for successful buzz

We hear a lot about buzz, but what is "buzz" exactly - and how does it start? First, a buzz is something that you create. It starts small, like ripples in a pond. It builds slowly. But when cultivated and capitalized on, the buzz eventually gets too loud to ignore. This is our goal when we work with you to turn a book into credibility into celebrity: create a buzz that makes your name, your face, your book, and your message instantly synonymous - and ultimately recognizable. When a movie like Transformers or Star Trek is an instant box office smash, that's not a buzz; that's a million-dollar marketing blitz that literally created an overnight hit. Most of our clients aren't millionaires with unlimited marketing budgets, so we rely on building a buzz instead. Now, when a small, independent movie like My Big Fat Greek Wedding debuts to a rather slim box office ripple but word of mouth, great reviews and repeat business make it a "must-see" event over time - and a bona fide cult movie sensation - that's buzz working at its finest. That's people telling people about "this great new movie."

That's a few people reading a great review, passing word amongst themselves, and going as a group to see a matinee together. That's one friend liking the movie so much she immediately thinks of two more friends who "have to see it," and brings them along with her to see it again. That's a slow and consistently building of "buzz" that lasts far, far longer than the typical "blockbuster" movie that debuts to a huge $60 million opening and then quickly fizzles the next weekend - and every weekend after. So how do you build buzz? A buzz takes time; it doesn't happen overnight. It starts small, builds up steam, gradually establishes itself and eventually establishes you as someone buzz-worthy; as someone people are curious to know more about, learn from, listen to, etc.If you're interested in building buzz for yourself, here are several tips for doing just that:* Take your time to intelligently make your mark: You have to think this through; plan ahead and be consistent. Sharing the same message over and over isn't repetitive because you're usually speaking to a new audience; it's simply a smart way to hone your message to perfection. The good thing about building a buzz is that it gives you time to really lock in your message and do it intelligently the more and more you give it.* Schedule events: Events are the bread and butter of establishing a big buzz.

Create a list of bookstores and blanket them with readings; the more, the better. But don't stop there; plenty of other places are open to author events as well. If you've written a book on gardening, talk to nurseries and local department stores with plant sections to do walk-through tours where you point out the latest spring plants or which flowers survive best in winter. If you've written a cookbook, do presentations and workshops at local cooking schools, restaurants or even food courts. Keep your eyes and ears open and be alert when walking around town; you never know which venue you walk past or just hear about might make the perfect place for your next event!* Lock your smile in: Appear at signings and readings - whether at the biggest chain bookstore in town or the smallest mom-and-pop used bookstore - with enthusiasm, vitality, humor, and your great message. A buzz can either be positive or negative, and you want to make sure you build the right, not the wrong, kind of buzz.* Be prompt, be professional, be persistent: Even the biggest towns are small when it comes to local newspapers, magazines, radio, and TV employees.

These gatekeepers remember names, faces, an attitude, a gesture, a remark, or an affront. They have short attention spans and long memories. When you consistently provide trouble-free, audience-pleasing appearances time and again, the gates eventually open and something truly exciting starts: a buzz.* Build on your contacts: Tell people about what you're doing. If you're having a book signing next weekend, send out a blitz email to all your friends. Tell your coworkers, tell them to tell their coworkers, collect business cards and email addresses and create a "master list" or "database" of everyone you meet, what they do and how they might help perpetuate the almighty buzz.Don't think buzz creates itself or, for that matter, get depressed because you're not an expert on buzz; nobody is. Those who have mastered the art of the buzz are simply efficient planners with a game plan that is consistent, credible and, did I say...consistent?!?

7 steps to becoming famous online

  1. To become famous, you’re going to have to give people a reason to care about you or what you’re doing. Is there something unique about you, your work or your interests? Do you have a special insight into something that a lot of people are interested? Basically, you need to figure out what you have to offer the world.
  2. Next, you need a gimmick. Several people have gotten famous online solely off a gimmick, but it’s rarely been a lasting fame. You could be the guy that straps a webcam on his head just because that’s his gimmick (what’s his name?), or you could use that gimmick to get more people interested in what you have to offer, creating a much wider audience.
  3. Once you’ve got your mission and your gimmick, it’s time to get going. Dedicate as much time as you can to your pursuit of fame. Blog, post on other blogs, upload YouTube videos and go viral with as much content about you as possible. You need to literally flood the Internet to get even a trickle of fame.
  4. Network with other blogs and build a community around yourself wherever you can. Host chats, setup a forum about yourself, let everyone know what’s up with you using Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc.
  5. Digg yourself and use whatever other free promotion tools you can. Consider advertising with Google Adsense or another service if you can afford it.
  6. Consider branching out into other media, pitch stories about your celebrity to traditional print, broadcast and other outlets. Give lectures, readings, throw parties or host other events to get your name out there.
  7. Hire an agent and take over the world. So long, Oprah!

    The Classics

The 90's generation of rappers are always talking about how they are better than the rappers of today. Well, that's a matter of opinion. It's like Kobe vs Jordan. Each has there time and they are the best at that moment. There are very good rappers coming up today with the King being Lil Wayne right now and I don't think anyone can dispute that fact. But for those who want some of those Good Ole Days back these videos are for you.

The Best New Young Guns Step Up

    JayRock

    Vado

    Nipsey Hustle

These are just a few of the young rappers coming up in the game who are doing it the right way. JayRock has an incredible voice with a stellar delivery. Cut from a nice piece of cloth when it comes to his rap skills. I think he is number 1 or at the least 1A. I am waiting to hear much more from him in the future.
My personal favorite is Vado! SLIMMMME, Coming under the wing of Killa Cam Vado has it all, cleaver lines, delivery, the voice, swag, this dude was made to rap. Cam found the right one for Harlem. New York hip hop is not on top of its game right now and personally I think the west coast is poised for a take over of the music industry but Vado is the shinning hope that NYC still has something to say.

    Your press kit

The main goal in creating a press kit is to generate interest in an artist and the music they play. A press kit includes background information, photos, samples of music, a listing of past and future gigs you have scheduled, and any other pertinent information.  A press kit is used as a way of introducing and artist to newspapers, the media, promoters, and music industry leaders.  You can create a press kit that is mailed to the appropriate recipients and it is a good idea to have an electronic form of your press kit that can be emailed and posted on web sites.
Things to include in your press kit:Offer a limited a mount of information about yourself, your band, and your style of music. Don't give the reader more information than they want.  If your introduction is too lengthy, you will lose the interest of your intended audience.Talk about your music, the way in which you perform your songs, your sound, and who your influences are.
You will want to give a good idea of what you may sound like in these descriptions.  Do not be afraid to interject a little humor into your descriptions.  You will get someone's attention during the very first minute they open your press kit.  If you do not captivate them immediately, they will lose interest.Describe the things that make you special in comparison to everyone else.
What are your skills and experience level?  Why would a record promoter or executive gain by giving you a chance to record and market your music?  Record companies spend a great deal of money in promoting new artists.  You will want to make it clear why you would be a good investment.Include press clippings and quotes as they become available.  A remark made about you by a reputable person will go a long way in making your press kit credible.  This will let the reader know that you have been recognized as a talent to be reckoned with and could possibly create extra momentum for you while you are trying to launch your career.  Whether you are in need of a singer, musician, or actor press kit, recognition from others is a great tool in promoting yourself. You really only need one page of your press kit to be devoted to a biography and one page that includes quotes and press clippings.
This rule stands even in an online portfolio.  By keeping each topic on a simple page, you are much more likely to hold the interest of the person who receives your press kit.  Make sure the tone of your band press kit is in line with who you are as a person and the type of music you perform. A sample of your music in the form of a high quality CD or clips that can be heard in an electronic press kit are critical. Make certain you label the CD with your name and contact information.
If someone loves your music but has misplaced the rest of your press kit, you will want this information to readily available to them.Be careful not to overdo the self-promotion.  You should be positive and state your ambitions, but shameless self-promotion will make you look unprofessional and less than credible.  Also avoid including too much personal information.
No one cares (yet) about your first pet, your grades in elementary school, or your personal phobias.  Keep the focus on your music and your accomplishments.  You want to be sure you do not look desperate for work, even if you really are. Include a personal cover letter to whomever you send your press kit to, and try to avoid sending your musician press kit unsolicited.  It is always better to have a referral from a friend or associate of the person you wish to see your material.
